  1. I want to reinstall the original air cleaner with a K&N filter element inside it on my 1969 Mach1.  It is a 351W car and I use a Weiand Stealth intake manifold.  The air cleaner just touches one of the nuts that holds the scoop to the hood and needs to drop down about 1/2".  Dropping 3/4" would be ideal but I'll settle for 1/2".  I can see where it would be easy to cut, trim and weld to rework the air cleaner where it sits on the carb.  But, I only have acetylene torches and an arc welder.  So no good equipment to weld thin sheet metal.  Does the big block air cleaner sit lower?  If so, about how much lower?  I don't like the shorter filter the big block air cleaners use but that might be my only option.

    Thanks

I purchased a Edelbrock performer RPM and Weiand Stealth to check the fit with my 351w shaker.   As I remember the 351W stealth caused my shaker to be very high in the front.  The RPM had the correct angle.  Perhaps the stealth is causing the problem.

  2. Hi Brian,ope this helps

Yeah, the east coast was nailed pretty hard but luckily we only got clouds with occasional showers here I'm Maine. Not good cruise-in weather! I need to move to California so I don't have to keep heading to Florida every winter to escape the snow and cold.

I've heard JBA is a great shop. I'm sure it was fine when it left them. I don't know what happened.

Yes, it's running very rich. I've adjusted the air/fuel mixture and checked the float level. All appears OK. Anything else to do is beyond my experience level so I'm sending it to Holley and have them overhaul and put everything back to original configuration.

Once again, Thanks for all the help. I'll let you know how I make out when I get the carb back.

    Bill

Just my 2 cents.  ethanol in pump gas accelerates deterioration of the float needle tips causing them to not fully seat at idle. Hence the motor runs rich and erratic at idle. That is why I switched to pure gas awhile back. So the fix maybe replacement of the float needle valves and then an idle mixture adjustment.  now if your A/F mixture off idle hasn't been measured through the RPM range you may have the wrong jets installed.  Holley cant fix that problem for you since it needs to be done while running your car.  I use an air fuel ratio meter from innovate to dial in my carb.   I hope this is helpful.

  3. My opinion is an for aftermarket gauges a new instrument panel would be the way to go.  A really nice autometer set is made by JME.  They are expensive. The wood-grain set with 6 gauges is pretty awesome.  http://jmeenterprises.com/69dash.shtml   For the dash lights on your factory panel, I removed the blue diffusers and installed green LED's from mustang project.  they are bright and look great.

  4. The top pivot point where the post enters the quarter window frame is loose on both sides.  The post is secure but you can wiggle the top of the window. Is there a plastic grommet that fits in the widow frame that the post fits in?   Am I missing a piece?  This is causing a rattle when the windows are open and a leak when washing the car.   I appreciate any insight with this problem.  Alan
