OEM Bumper Identifiers

Recommended Posts

You ever get this sick feeling that you've been hosed and you can't prove it much less do anything about it? About three months ago, I pulled the OEM bumpers off my car to have them re-chromed. Went to pick them up today and was noticing some marks on the inside of the rear bumper. I do not recall them when I took the bumpers off my car. I asked the shop owner what that was all about and he told me that that bumper had been straightened before. I bought the car in 1975 from the original owner. Not likely someone is going to straighten and rechrome a bumper when an OEM unit was available. That was bothersome to me. He also said he found no OEM markers on my bumpers, which to him was unusual. That set off another red flag for me. The bumpers also feel light to me. I asked him, to his face, if those bumpers were mine and he said they were. After looking at them now, I'm thinking they are not my original bumpers and I even question that they are OEM. All that said, where might I find OEM markers for the 69 front and rear bumpers?

Thanks,

John

I recently replaced my original rear bumper with a reproduction one.  I couldn't tell the difference between them other then around the license plate area... they even seemed to weigh the same and the steel gauge was close if not exactly the same.
