Matte Black Gloss Clear- will it work?

Hi All, I can get get PPG Aerospace matte black 2K paint with activator and reducer from my workplace for free once it is out of shelf life (6 months).  Could this be used as base coat under a gloss clear coat or possibly a satin clear coat? I've painted cars before but that was mainly with acrylic lacquer paints. I did a couple of 2K clear over base spray jobs about 20 years ago and remember the base coat being flat off the gun. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. I actually don't mind matte finishes but am thinking if I go to all the effort to get the car straight it might as well be shiny.

yes it can but it will look nothing like a regular gloss black.

I would suggest painting a test piece of metal and see if you like the look. At least then if you dont like it you dont have to go through the trouble of sanding it and prepping a part again. Heck it's definitely worth a try since it's free.

Is the paint urethane or enamel? Both are available as 2k. If urethane, yes it would probably work. As stated, test on junk panel first.

The paint is urethane and I've got an old car to use for a test piece. Its worth a shot!
