Dave R. 85 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 I have looked for this exact combination to have been discussed here but can't find it. My '69 Mach 1 R code is nearing completion. I have kept it nearly stock and want to continue to do so. But I do want to fill the wheel openings a bit more than the stock tire/wheel combination. If I use the Vintiques 15" chrome Mach/GT style wheel with a 225/70r15 tire will I have rubbing issues? I see that some are using 235's with some rubbing. Any thoughts? Dave R. Dave R. 85 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 I looked at that size tire but it is only 1.7" taller that the stock tire/wheel combo. That is overall height which is .85" from center of the wheel to the tread. The 225/70 is 2.6" taller or 1.3" from the center of the wheel to the tread. I hate to go overboard as well as not go big enough. Thanks barnett468. Dave R.
Dave R. 85 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 225 x 65 - 15 Nearly non-existent size. Looks like it was only used on the 1993 Jaguar. Thanks barnett468.

Max Power 74 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 I have Specialty Wheel 15x7 in the front and 15x8 in the rear, 225/60 front and 255/60 rear. No rubbing. No clue what your offset is, mine is the same as the repro Magnums.
Dave R. 85 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 Thanks Max Power. The 60/15's are almost identical to the original tire/wheel combo. That is why I am wondering about a taller tire such as a 70 series. Dave R.

Dave R. in case you have never seen 225 x 70 - 15's on a mustang, they look almost like truck tires on the front because of the tall sidewall and the od. you can put 215 x 65 - 18's on a 7" rim . . i have done this also but they don't look really wide. i'm sure you know you could lower the front with lowering springs and the rear with lowering blocks. . BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted December 21, 2014 I have a collection of pics of various tires sizes on 69-70 fastbacks from when I was trying to make my choice if interested. I believe there was only one example of a 225/70.
Dave R. 85 Report post Posted December 21, 2014 BuckeyeDemon, thanks. I would like to see actual example for that tire/wheel size. Post it here or in a PM to me if that is easier for you. I appreciate it. Dave R.

DarkBuddha 107 Report post Posted December 21, 2014 For whatever it's worth, I ran 235/75/15s on 15x7s with 0 offset on my '70 Mach 1 lowered 1", and never had rubbing issues.

DarkBuddha 107 Report post Posted December 22, 2014 No typo Buckeye. They don't look that wide in this pic, but that's only because of how tall they are. Look at how they bulge out around the wheels, which are 15x7s...
DarkBuddha 107 Report post Posted December 22, 2014 Here it is with the fender on after it came back from paint... Wheels were 15x7, 0 offset. Still, they never rubbed when I drove the car daily.

DarkBuddha 107 Report post Posted December 23, 2014 Lol... That may be conventional wisdom, but it never did. I daily drove on that size wheels and tires for nearly 7 years and trust that I hammered on it pretty good during that time.
