shelbyshelby 52 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) Can't believe a clutch pedal pad has me stumped. I have a new pedal pad and it came with a lip (on the lower outer edge) on 3 sides of it. It looks like it is meant to be there, doesn't look like a mold line. What was left of the old didn't have those lips. Are they meant to be trimmed off or installed as is? If the lips stay on, does it turn a certain way. I'll be using weather stripping adhesive in it so I want to get it right the first time. Wycked69 20 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 It should not require any type of adhesive to hold the pad on to the pedal. How about posting a photo of this pad you are describing so we can better understand what you are referring too.
barnett468 418 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 there are 4 lips on the backside to hold it on. if one is missing it is no good. if it has extra lips that are short and point toward the floor when the pedal is installed, they are unnecessary but won't hurt anything. . shelbyshelby 52 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 Added a picture. Look at the bottom left side. It and two other sides have this lip on it and the top or bottom, depending which way you put it on does not have the lip. It looks out of place and the one that was on it, didn't have the lip. The tabs for mounting on the bottom are all there and good shape. I guess it's just a cosmetic thing, but curious if was correct or not.
Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 Pedals pads also have a trim. Brian
shelbyshelby 52 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 The red arrow is area of my concern. I don't have a trim piece yet but I believe the yellow arrow is for trim, no issues with that. Does the red arrow lip have in bearing on the trim? Prevent it from going on on or necessary to install the trim? 1 shelbyshelby reacted to this
shelbyshelby 52 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 Brian, your pad looks like my old one without the lip. Yours is an original I bet. I'm thinking I'll just trim my new one off to the match the original look.
barnett468 418 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 the lips may help keep the trim ring on when pushing on the edge of the pedal. your pedal takes a trim ring which will fill in the yellow arrow area. i would install the trim then cut the lip off flush with the outside of the trim ring. mach1mike 10 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 the stainless trim ring fits in the pedal pad lip as in your picture, the trim ring has metal tabs that fold around the back side of the pedal pad so they aren't visible
