Fix/Upgrade For Manual Steering

Recommended Posts

Intend to switch over to PS at some point but until then...

Is there a fix/upgrade for the current manual steering? I've got about 10* in either direction of play I find somewhat disconcerting.

For all I know maybe that's normal :tongue_smilie:

First thing I would do is check all of the tie rod ends, the drag link, and the upper and lower control arm to spindle ball joints for slop. Put the front end of the car on jackstands and manually turn one wheel and observe what moves right away and what doesn't. This is cheap and helps you to isolate where your problems are. The steering box is the least suspicious item.

You have play in the system and need to find where.

Get a friend to sit in the car and turn the when back and forth as you look under the hood and under the car.

First check the steering box. Turn the wheel while looking to see how much the pitman arm moves. Then look at the idler arm, then all the tie rod ends

If you want factory PS I have a couple spare set ups
