det0326 179 Report post Posted October 8, 2013 Hey all I have just finished leading the 1/4 and roof seam with 70/30 lead. Yes I took all the precautionary measures when doing this. My question is does anyone know if it is OK to apply a plastic filler over the lead or should it be epoxy primed before applying the plastic filler or is there another procedure that would be better? The leaded job is not that bad at all but it does require a little building as the file did do a little under cutting. thanks
mustangstofear 608 Report post Posted October 8, 2013 I would Epoxy prime over the lead, then put a coat of Fiber Tech down first then followed by your choice of filler.
MikeStang 247 Report post Posted October 8, 2013 We welded mine up then out panel bond also then a skim coat of icing. U would say epoxy primer it, that leads may suck up some base coat If Not, But I'm Not a body man so can't say for sure. Better safe than sorry. Mind If I ask why you went back with lead? I guess there are a number of ways to do it but this is the way the factory did it in 69 and mine still looked good when I removed it but it also looked like there might have been some kind of coating over it and was just wondering what it might be. thanks for the replies
bomccorkle 12 Report post Posted October 10, 2013 My factory lead was all proud of the surrounding panels. I melted it out then walded a filler piece in to build up. Then epoxy primed and then filled with rage gold.
