fordbsg 10 Report post Posted July 25, 2013 Did the C-6 auto trans come in the 69 Mach 1 with the 351 Windsor only? I always thought the FMX was the only auto used in the Machs with the 351 W 2v. I know there were manuals and I do know the C-6 did come with other motor options. Just trying to educate myself. Thanks all.
LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted July 25, 2013 The small block C6 did not become available until the early 70's. So on a 69 no it was not there from the factory. It WILL however bolt in on such applications because I have done it no problem. FMX and C4 were the only small block automatics for 69 on Mustang to the best of my knowledge. B. maxum96 32 Report post Posted July 26, 2013 69 Mustang with a 351 should have an FMX. But as said, a small block C6 will bolt in. I ran a small block C6 behind a 351C in a previous 70 Mustang I had.
'70MACH1 10 Report post Posted July 29, 2013 I believe that the 351w had the C4 and the Cleveland had the fmx.
ashleesmach1 28 Report post Posted July 29, 2013 no, 1969 351's had the fmx as well
Max Power 74 Report post Posted July 29, 2013 no, 1969 351's had the fmx as well Correct. C4 was for 302 and 6 cylinder applications. I am not sure if Ford had some FMX transmissions they needed to use up or they weren't confident that the C4 would hold up to the 351, but the only auto for 69/70 351 engines, H or M code, was the FMX. Hindsight says they should have used the C4 instead.
