How can I tell if I have a correct driveshaft for a wide-ratio 4-speed tranny?

Correct as in how? Does it fit? With the weight on the suspension, the slip yoke should be about 1.5" from bottoming out.

I'm looking for correctness as in application/fit/function. Still in the process of a tranny swap back to a 4 speed so haven't tried to fit the driveshaft I have yet. Was looking to find out how to tell before attempting to determine if I need to have it shortened, need an new input shaft, or need to get a different one.

would it help if i measured the driveshaft length that was in mine when it had the 351w and 4-spd?

i did check my old one since i said i would and it measured about 50 1/4" center to center.

Hey Jim...if its not to much to ask... What does the book say the length is on a 302/4 speed car? I'm using a donor 68' cougar for the drivetrain and wonder if the driveshaft will work without modifications.

The parts book lists this same driveshaft for 351 with 3 or 4 speed trans, 302 with C4 or 3 speed or 4 speed and 250 with C4.

Got the trany and driveshaft installed and the driveshaft fits with ~7/8" of the yoke shaft exposed. Is that about right?
