That is a blast from the past! A lot of NASCAR and Drag Racers use to wear the wing tips before all the safety clothes came along. They had leather soles and kept their feet from burning from all the heat. Dick Trickle was the last to wear them. I saw him race in the early 90s and he commented on the shoes then.

Pretty neat stuff. Does anyone remember the 69 boss 429 that was built for exhibition shows for the military. It was supercharged and I think they may have built two of them. I can't remember if it was promoted by ford or not. I read a story about it a few years ago but can't find anything on it now. I believe they flew them over seas and made passes at airports for the military.

One of them was on display at Ford Carlisle a few years ago. I believe the other one was badly damaged while being transported on board a ship. A crane dropped a cargo container on it.
