Darz 2 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 this is the Mach 1 I bought a few years back. I finally started to strip it down to be shot Raven Black. I dont care for winter blue. Very little rust -just a tad in the corner of the door. Im done block sanding & da-ing the original paint. I now am going to finish glaze it, epoxy, and so on... Its a 428 C6 car. I have all the new bumpers, trim, bezels, weatherstripping, etc. I bought all that b4 starting this whole project. I am going to use SPI paints. Magnums or Styled steel, not sure yet. Hopefully I get her done b4 June.:whistling: I cant wait..

I've heard good things about them, is their stuff available retail or only mail-order? How much material would I need to do a convertible? I plan on epoxy, 2K, base, clear ... Is that "House of Kolor black" you mentioned one of their products/colors? Thanks, any advice is always appreciated!
Darz 2 Report post Posted March 26, 2009 their products are available mail order. they r in georgia, I am in Wi, and it took 3 days to ship and free shipping. I ordered a gallon of epoxy, 1 gallon of universal clear, 1 gallon of high build. I put on 2 coats of epoxy, 3 coats high build, and sealed it with the reduced epoxy. I have a quart of epoxy left, 1/2 gal high build, 1 qt clear. and 1/2 gallon of HOK black after 4 coats of that. they are excellent products, sand easy, easy to shoot, easy to buff. I will never use anything else again. http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/ they have a forum also http://spi.forumup.org/index.php?mforum=spi

Darz 2 Report post Posted March 28, 2009 thanks much. It turned out a lot better than I ever thought it would. House of Kolor Black is available at most auto paint suppliers. It is absolutely the "blackest" black available. Its not cheap though, about 180.00 a gal, there is cheaper places to buy it, but I wanted it now.... rd49221 14 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Beautiful! I have a question - I notice that you removed the rear glass, but left the windshield glass in. Does anyone have any suggestions on whether it's better to remove the glass or not? I'd be interested in knowing whether anyone has had issues with breakage, etc. Thanks
Darz 2 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 I took out the rear glass as it was leaking due to rotten weatherstripping. The front was fine. I wanted to get the metal cleaned up and epoxied under the weatherstrip. It was easy to get out, the front is a little more challenging.
rd49221 14 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 thanks for the info. Mine is being stripped this week. I will look for signs of leaking front and back.
