Authentic 1969 Mach 1

New to 69stang. Trying to buy my first mustang. I apologize if there was a previous post on this subject. Is there any way to authenticate a Mach 1?

Get the vin number and the door codes from the vehicle and check the numbers in a code book or online. Or just post them here and we will help you.

63C is for a `69 mach 1. But Mufflerbearing hit it on the head, very knowledgeable people here.

Also the fifth digit of the vin must have either and H,M,S,Q or R for it to be a Mach 1. Though even with those engine codes it could still be a plain-jane SportsRoof. If it has the original door tag, the 63C would be the best way to verify.

Thanks guys, great info. I will be going to look at the car again this weekend to get pictures and numbers. Any suggestions on specific places to check for rust?

I always think looking in the trunk can give you a better idea of what is going on with the car. Isn't the place people usually put the money to cover up rust issues.

 

Normal rust - floorboards, rear fender, both lower corners of the doors.....

THE COWL! Undoubtedly the most expensive and difficult place to repair rust. Ask the owner if you can poor a bucket of water down it. If the water runs out behind the tires that's a good sign, if it runs out onto under the dash and on the floors then run away as a fast as you can.

 

Print out this checklist to take with you and make notes and evaluate the cars condition and cost of parts that are needed.

Look at the front frame rails real well especially around the torque boxes. Over the years water would get in there and sit. Remember your looking at a 37 year old car. The lower doors is where the water would sit, do to the drains getting clogged
