  1. You need to have the parking brake cable in place in order for the pedal to return. There is a spring so the handle should return.
  2. The '69 shifters aren't known for smooth shifting but some people put them back in for originality's sake. I'm interested as I need one for my '69, and will PM you my email for pictures.
  3. Progress, besides blasting/ painting a bunch of the literally infinite number of pieces for this car... Seats redone with TMI covers. Had originally purchased Distinctive industries covers and returned them. It was like they have never seen a Mach 1 seat cover before and the comfortweave was WAY off in both color and texture. New Mustang Market door panels. Would probably go with TMI next time since installing the beltline W/S is a pain and it comes already attached to the TMI door panels. That said, these are of great quality and appearance. I still have to cut them for the door speakers.
  4. Marine teak for the 3m di-noc. It's a lot of work but great results. There's some tricks to applying it, pm me your phone number if you'd like me to walk you through. I've done a number of them and each once gets better. You have to let the air escape in the emblem area to prevent bubbles, and keep the woodgrain panel extremely clean (after you've cooked off the original woodgrain and media blasted / primed with two separate primers). I've used a semi-flat paint for the dash panes. They are not the same color as the plastic dash pieces and lower dash from what I've seen.
  5. Scott drake reproduces the clock panel and Daniel Carpenter repops the map light. Both excellent reproductions. I've never seen an original clock panel bezel with intact side tabs. They mount with six screws top and bottom so I was never really concerned about the side tabs.
  6. I used media that had been run through the blast cabinet already and was soft and fine. Filtered it out and it worked great. Dash grain is very deep and I saved a lot of time / mess stripping it.
  7. I used the black lacquer paint from NPD, pricey at $12/can but it looks good. I media blasted the dash first with a softer media to remove the paint and preserve the grain. I got the fold down carpet from CJ Pony Parts, it's the same ACC kit everyone else sells. It pays to let it dry first and trim the carpet almost exactly to fit so it doesn't bunch up when you put the trim on.
  8. Getting parts ready for when the car comes back: Before and after (Well, the one on the left was a replacement part without all the holes):
  9. Guys - I was polishing my lense this weekend and what little was left of the white "BELTS" lettering came off. It has only the slightest raised area - any thoughts on how to repaint it? Seems like it would take an extremely fine tipped brush and a very steady hand. I would prefer to not have to replace it but will if I need to.
  10. Hi, I need a set of sport mirrors for a 1969 Mustang. My car was originally a special paint car so it had the single chrome mirror. I would like to upgrade to the sport mirrors. Let me know what you have and how much shipped to 28202. Thanks! Jason
  11. The original map light is pot metal painted white. I had one with all the wires cut but the repo was so exact I picked one up instead of trying to repair mine.
  12. The map lights were part of the "Visibility Group" in 1969 and the "Convenience Group" in 1970.
  13. Quick update - I'm at the point in the project where you think "what have I gotten myself into?" but it's still fun. I've been working on some interior parts and finishing the 351c while the car is at the body shop.
  14. Yes, it's a repo map light. Mine was missing and this seems to be a perfect replacement. The paint and detailing all looked good - I've painted these before and it's a pain.
  15. Here are some pics of the new Scott Drake repo panel with an original woodgrain panel installed. Looks great, 100% correct as far as I can tell.
  16. Agreed - there are some odd combos out there. My 70 has the shaker, tach, tilt, fold down, convenience group, am fm, AC, ps, pdb, intermittent wipers, heck even bumper guards - and is a 351c-2v H code. The ford exec that ordered it got the car for a big discount but wanted better mileage. Grabber orange, shaker, single exhaust!
  17. Looks like a great car and I like the story. I'm 27 as well and am restoring a '70 Mach 1 after restoring a few other '69s, starting when I was 15 with a black '70 Mach. Great to see another person my age committed to quality work with a good understanding of these cars.
  18. Ill take photos this weekend when I put the wood and clock on there. First impressions are very good. $400 for one is absurd. My perfect original with new wood (di-noc) and clock (new lens) went for that. And there's only so many originals out there whereas these are available at any Scott Drake dealer.
  19. Mike, I picked up two of these new Scott Drake clock panels today from Harris Mustang. Very nice pieces. I just sold my perfect original on eBay (nicest original chrome I'd ever seen) and am glad I did. They really did a good job with this one. I'm happy to post any photos if you'd like.
  20. Good luck on the install. Degreaser, pb blaster, and gloves are your friend here.
  21. Ok, out with the T5z, in with the TKO 600! I think the t5z would have been plenty but I picked up the like new tko and all the conversion parts for a great price (far less than even a t5z alone costs) so I couldn't pass it up. Hopefully it will fit ok and work with the shaker.
  22. Good info thanks. Shows you the quality control back then - they don't even match each other on my car.
  23. Here's my lights installed in the dash (I realize they're not in the right spots). Question for the group - any idea why my "Belts" light looks different from others? 1970 Mach 1 Built in December of '69, Dearborn plant. Shows "Deluxe Belts" on the Marti Report and I can't see why this would ever have been changed out.
  24. Haha - oh the mini bike. It was sitting next to the '69 in a backwoods SC backyard. My friend who I bought the car with is going to rebuild it.
  25. I media blasted/ primed mine and then sanded down the primer. I think lacquer thinner works well as long as you're planning on repainting them. It's been a long time since I posted an update - while my car has been waiting in line at the body shop, I've finished restoring a 1952 Eska small 60 pedal tractor, mostly finished detailing the 351 cleveland, detailed the other 351 cleveland (which I'll sell), put a new interior in the '70 Corvette, and also filled the Mach's space in the garage with a '69 Mach 1 "s code" 4 speed car. Certainly been busy! New '69 (will likely sell): Finished up the dash/seats/ interior of the 'Vette: 1970 D0AE-J 351c 4v motor: Just didn't want you guys to think I haven't been busy!
