  1. I took these brakes apart ~8 years ago, and tossed all the parts got tossed. I bought a factory manual, and it's plainly obvious how most of it goes together, but these aren't in the factory diagram, and I don't want to just wing it ;) Thanks, Chris
  2. Figured the brakes out. Now I have all the correct parts for the front brakes. Rear is next. Yesterday I got a fuel pump, and I picked up a set of factory service manuals for '69 (hopefully will be useful with the '70 as well) Today, I ordered a distributor. I may regret it in the end, but I got a HEI unit, with the built in coil, cap, and rotor, or like $50 on eBay. As long as it works for now, eventually, I want to go distributor-less, but there are more important things to do. I'm going to get the front brakes done this afternoon, and hopefully get the rears on tomorrow. Yay!
  3. My '69 had Dark Blue... I kind of like the lighter blue, looks nice.
  4. Here in WA you can take a car to the State Patrol for a inspection. They verify that the car is not stolen, and it has to be street legal. It does not have to be running, or look good. They described it to me as it has to have everything you need to drive down the road, without getting pulled over. Fenders, hood, wheels, doors, etc. Then, after you pass inspection, the DOL gives you "Registration in Doubt" which allows you to register and drive it for three years. At the end of the three years, you get a title. I guess it gives a little bit of a buffer for the previous owner to step forward if they wanted to claim it...
  5. My '69 has the first style, and I believe it to be original...
  6. Is it as simple as the bolts I see on the top, bottom, and in the door jam? Does the headlight bucket have to come out? Any hidden bolts? Thanks, Chris
  7. We started pulling the motor today ;) I hope all goes well with it ;)
  8. We have to be overlooking something very simple... When you take the transmission pan off, there is nothing to hold fluid in except the torque converter, and it only holds so much. Are you talking about engine oil or transmission fluid? The oil pressure guage shows you oil pressure, and isn't necessarily to be trusted (it's 40 years old after all!) Or, are you sure your reading the right dipstick? I don't know you, so I don't know what your technical expertise is, so I have to ask. You're sure your not pulling the engine oil or power steering dipsticks?
  9. The C4 will bolt right up, but you will need a new flexplate and you'll need to swap your current oil pan, oil pickup, and timing cover. I say get the new 302, go through it, and then pull your old one, swap the needed parts, and put it back in. Even if you keep it carb'd you still get the advantage of a one piece rear main and a roller cam...
  10. Nobody? I got a set of plugs and wires today, just need a cap and I'll be close to ready to spin the motor, if only I can figure out these wires.... TIA, Chris

  12. Does anyone have any? I know I need a manual, but I'm out of work right now. Lots of free time to work on the car, very little money to spend :/ Anyway, I just need to know the wiring to the engine, a square 4 pin and a flat 3 pin from the firewall, as well as the flat 3 pin that went to the alternator. Also, there are two smaller terminals on the solenoid, a red with a blue stripe and a black or brown, the red/blue is on the frontmost small terminal, the brown is on the rearmost. Is this right?

  14. Oh yeah, I'm sure. I want to get rid of them anyway. I was thinking about a 429/460, and no matter what I go with I want to replace the front suspension with something more modern, so getting rid of the shock towers wouldn't be a big deviation.. Tell me about it! I don't know if it'd fit in my F250's engine bay without issue! Lol, certainly not, but I'm not out for weight savings here. It just happens to be a aluminum block, I'd still do this if it was iron. Kind of hard to explain what I want from my engine bay. I don't need power or weight savings or even originality. What I want is best described as a *grin*. I want something that makes me *grin* when someone asks whats under the hood. I want a project that is unique, and all done by me. I also love the modern/classic contrast, like popping the hood of a '69 to find a modern SOHC or DOHC 4.6 motor, COP and all, only to find that it has a 4bbl carb on top. Kind of like how I'd love to have a pair of 4bbls on my 302 if I kept it, even though I'm not going to be out running it hard or racing. I don't need the power, I just want the "cool" factor...

  16. Today I got the front bumper on again (first time in 8 years) and tried to install front brakes.... Firstly, I found that '69 and '70 front brakes seem a little different. I tried copying a picture I was given of a '70, and that didn't work... But, they gave me the wrong hardware kit at the parts store anyway. So I'll exchange it tomorrow. I at least have 2 shoes installed, and tomorrow it will be both sides. I also need to go get a adjuster kit for each side. Remember, I don't have any brake parts already, so I'm starting from scratch... Then I get to jack the rear up, and see what I need back there.

  19. Yeah, I didn't expect it to stop water entirely, but it did cut down on "wet floor syndrome" signifigantly... I hadn't thought about sealing the window. I may look at that. I mostly want to just fix the leak ;)

  22. Not alot has happened. Cleaned the engine real good to see what was leaking, good thing about cork gaskets is you can just snug the valve covers and oil pan up to stop leaks ;) Hopefully this summer, the 302 is coming out, getting thoroughly cleaned, painted, and going back in with some new gaskets. Nothing to wild, upgrades are still forbidden by my better half, but a new paint job will do wonders for the engine bay. Plus, I'm allowed to put some nice valve covers I have on it (I haven't decided between the chrome/black Edelbrocks, or the ancient aluminum M/Ts... I made a magnetic cover for the cowl vent, it helped with water alot. I also spent a bunch of time cleaning pine needles out of the cowl, and re-sealed some of it with silicon. Oh, and I now have new LCA on both sides, and new Moog endlinks. Next, I want some UCAs and roller perchs. Overall, I'm pretty much done "fixing" the car from a mechanical standpoint. Now I just need to get the body back to perfect. I need floor panels, fix the cowl leak, and door skins wouldn't hurt. Oh, number one! I want a fan shroud! And number two is a rubber kit for the windows. I want to stop water from getting in the doors ;)

  25. I turned my drums a week or so ago, and bought all the parts I needed for the front brakes, except a few... I still need to get adjusters, but I finally tracked down the wheel cylinder pins I was looking for... I also have a line on a 4.6L DOHC motor, well see how that turns out. I'm hopeful that it will have a future home in my '69. Oh! And I have a date with the State Patrol on March 29th at 1:00pm! If I get it all back together by then (mostly) I'll get my registration. Three years later, I get a title! WoHoo!
