JD08 42 Report post Posted January 23, 2017 Wouldn't that be the neutral safety switch? What transmission do you currently have C4 or FMX? If it's an FMX (most likely), the NSS is in the shifter and connect to the main harness via a 4 prong plug on the driver's side of the firewall. 69RavenConv 288 Report post Posted January 23, 2017 Same 4 prong plug applies for a manual 3- or 4-speed. Two wires are jumpered at the mating connector and the other 2 go to the backup light switch mounted on the shifter.

Midlife 816 Report post Posted January 24, 2017 Yes, black/red wires are for backup lights; red/blue are for starter/crank/NSS.
3pedal 95 Report post Posted January 24, 2017 With key on I connected the 2 black wires together (they look black) and the backup lights went on... am I ok using these 2 wires for the backups....thanks Randy
Midlife 816 Report post Posted January 24, 2017 Yes, those are the two wires. All you need now is to hook them up to a switch when your tranny is backing up.
3pedal 95 Report post Posted January 24, 2017 Thanks Randy...now do I need to permanently tie the 2 red/blue wires together to let the car start ... if I don't use the start/crank/NSS
Midlife 816 Report post Posted January 25, 2017 They are always tied together with a manual transmission, but switched on/off by the gear selector/neutral safety switch that typically attaches to the automagic tranny.
