Raven R code 281 Report post Posted November 21, 2016 Does anyone know what material is used for the electrical contact in the socket base for lights? I'm planning on to get my turn signal housings plated and don't know if the contact point in socket base will get dissolved. Thanks, Daver
Midlife 814 Report post Posted November 22, 2016 The actual contact is a brass-like material, but many bulb sockets contain bakelite compounds as well. I'd recommend disassembling the socket completely if you are going to get them replated. 2 Raven R code and Dave R. reacted to this
Raven R code 281 Report post Posted November 22, 2016 Randy, Thanks for the info ! I just talked to Marcus From Anghel restorations. He suggested filling the socket with RTV for added protection. The max temp that the parts endure during plating is 160°. Which is not more than engine compartment temp.
