Leadfoot 4 Report post Posted October 1, 2016 Hi, has anyone done this job recently? Specifically what is the best way to get to the top of the three bolts? The middle and bottom ones are easy to access, but I'm puzzled how to get to the top one. Thanks. 1 Leadfoot reacted to this
Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted October 1, 2016 First leave the other two Bolts in until you have the top bolt out. Then I use a 1/4" rachet , 1/2" socket and 6" ext. The socket and ext. go in from the front and on the top side of the starter. Looking into the engine compartment and at the starter motor while bending over the Right fender the bolt and socket are visible and just guide the socket and ext. onto the bolt. Now get under the car and put the rachet onto the ext and remove the bolt. Clear as mud ? Or you can do it from the top with a wrench and a 1/16 of a turn to loosen and the tighten. Caseyrhe 650 Report post Posted October 2, 2016 I use all my extensions put together, run under the exhaust manifold or header, with ratchet winding up in front of alternator, easy as pie. 1 jholmes217 reacted to this
jholmes217 65 Report post Posted October 2, 2016 I use all my extensions put together, run under the exhaust manifold or header, with ratchet winding up in front of alternator, easy as pie. This is how I do it on my 428 with headers. Works like a charm, but like Brian said, best to do this bolt first since you won't be in a position to catch the starter when it falls.
