Machspeed 219 Report post Posted April 13, 2016 I have a 69 Mach that I'm restoring and wish to beef up the shock towers, much like they did to the 428 cars. I have brackets that wrap the towers and I was curious as to how these are to be welded? My brother has a 70 Boss 302 and I observed that they do not appear to be perimeter welded. Pictures of modded cars I've seen show them to be welded along the perimeter of the bracket. How are the factory brackets welded? Thanks, John 2 PhillipEn and laurakk11 reacted to this
barnett468 418 Report post Posted April 13, 2016 factory brackets are spot welded with around 3/8" spot welds . you will have more strength it you stitch or full weld the periminter. if you plan to race the car, i would buy the additional tower braces/gussets and weld them in too. sub frame connectors help also . some weld in and some bolt in. the deep draw scott drake export brace also helps if you use a rallye
