aod will not shift out of first

I have a 1990 model AOD transmission in my 59 with a 302, and it stopped shifting when in drive. It is stuck in first gear. I think it could be the tv link cable, but not sure.  I know I have seen this subject on this site before, but it will not allow a search for AOD.  It has to be 4 letters to do a search, and how I search for it? 

 

Any ideas?

I should add I had the carb off, and this started just after that. Too suspicious?  It must be the tv linkage...

Try AOD trans or just trans in the search

Sounds like tv cable adjustment. My Falcon wouldn't shift out of first on its first test drive after the aod install. After adjusting the cable it shifted as it should

That is my guess, I had exactly the same thing when I got my AOD installed.  It did this when I first got my car driving after installing the tranny.  k;llI took in into the shop and it was fixed in an hour.  So it is not difficult, it just takes knowing how to set it.   I might see if I can find someone who knows how to set it tomorrow.

Yes, it was the trottle vavle cable adjustment. I took it to a tranny shop, and they knew exactly what it needed.  Probably took them 20 minutes to adjust, charged me $130. Oh well, now we all know.

Back on a stock 89 Mustang, there was a little rubber grommet that the TV cable went into. When that disintegrated, you'd lose the ability to shift out of first.

 

I'd start by looking at where the cable connects to the carb or FI.

I had the carb off, and apparently the cable slipped or got out of adjustment. So that was it.
