Kris01 10 Report post Posted January 24, 2015 Hypothetical question, I'm just wondering...my car is actually New Lime. Ford seemed to use the color code D and 6 randomly to represent A. Blue and P. Gray. How can you tell what the car actually used to be if it has been stripped in the past of its original color?
69droptopgt 10 Report post Posted January 24, 2015 It all depended on the year the car was built. All color codes could change any year with ford. But if you know the year of the car and the code then you know the color.
Kris01 10 Report post Posted January 25, 2015 I meant specifically for '69.
69droptopgt 10 Report post Posted January 25, 2015 I have heard a few reasons for this. One I heard they changed in middle of year but I don't really think this is true. Secondly I have heard that ford only used 6 as Acapulco blue paint code. Pastel grey was code D. I read that ford put into some early literature (written before cars went to assembly) color codes that were incorrect. This data has been passed down. Not sure if it is true. I have two code 6 1969 cars one built 1/6/69 and other 5/19/69 both are Acapulco blue per Marti and were this color at build (I see original paint in doors and ect). 69droptopgt 10 Report post Posted January 25, 2015 I found it one place but know I read it somewhere else also. http://www.ebay.com/gds/1969-69-Mustang-Body-Color-Door-Tag-Codes-/10000000004007562/g.html Look at the note under color codes.

harlan69mach 21 Report post Posted January 25, 2015 Most of the information I have found lists 6 as the code for Acapulco blue but I have found that is for non-Mach 1 cars. The code for a Mach 1 Acapulco blue with matte black hood is 65. Have researched this some as our Acapulco blue Mach 1 has the color code 65. I think all the Mach 1s with the matte black hood have a 5 added to the standard color code. A lot of the on-line decoders do not have the Mach 1 color codes. Yep you are correct the 5 means that it has a matte back hood treatment. Even if the car is a black one! Don't know why that engine showed up there and it wont let me delete it. Ridge Runner 1,113 Report post Posted January 26, 2015 From what i have been able to find ,Acapulco Blue started out as a T bird color code E ,and later became Code D in 67 .In 69 it did change to code 6 for all ford cars . The color Charts must have just carried the D over .
Ridge Runner 1,113 Report post Posted January 26, 2015 the ford paint number for Acapulco blue from 1960 -63 shows M1269 then in 67 the Ford code shows the color as M3077 and stayed that code ,I don't know the color was actually the same for the T bird as 67 up
Kris01 10 Report post Posted January 27, 2015 I've found all 3 assembly plants to use the codes randomly. It doesn't appear to coincide with the date either. Surely Ford had a reason.
