jrw69 16 Report post Posted September 2, 2014 Just installed a new Petronix distributor and Flamethrower II coil. Wondering about the best way to bypass the pink resistance wire? I have been told by some that it isn't necessary but Petronix recommends it so you get the full 12V to the coil. Is it best to go back to the ignition or cut it at the firewall or find another source for the 12V? Have a 1969 Mach 1, 351W. Thanks JRW69
chaosrob 10 Report post Posted September 2, 2014 My Msd prior to the efi swap was wired to the ignition and worked without issue. I would go that route again if I had another carb car
Flanders 46 Report post Posted September 2, 2014 flamethrowerII and ignitorII require 12V (so yeah, need to bypass pink wire). From behind my ignition switch, I popped out the pink wire and replaced it with a regular wire. I routed this wire through the firewall (right beside the pink wire) and spliced it into the harness on the engine-side of the firewall. I kept the pink wire in there, zipped strapped to the new wire, for prosperity...it's not doing anything anymore. This was the easiest route for me, and didn't add any extra wires in the engine bay. jrw69 16 Report post Posted September 3, 2014 Thanks Flanders This sounds like the best way to do this, I will make it my Saturday project. Probably use a 12 or 14 gauge wire to bypass the resistor wire.
