What coil spring came on a 1970 351C & AT

Recommended Posts

I have my front end completely apart and the engine and trans removed. The coil springs that I took off, I believe were a used big block set installed by the PO. I'm installing a 351 Cleveland and an AOD trans, I have no ideal how much more the two weigh than the 289 and toploader I took out

I though I would just install the same type of spring used on a 1970 Mach 1 with a 351C and AT, but I have no ideal what type it was.

Or do you guys have any other suggestions for the front springs.

Here's some info with the 289 and Toploader installed.

From floor to wheel well apex - 26 5/16

Tire is 25.6”, there is a 1 5/8 gap between tire and wheel apex.

OEM tire is 26.60

The 351c is a heavy engine. If,you have a car with PS, AC and a few other options the springs are not that different than the big block springs.

I would look at the variable rate springs as replacements

No PS or AC.

Whats throwing me off, is that the Cleveland is heavier than a sbf.

Is the AOD almost the same weight as a FMX or C6

I would like to have the front sit a little lower, but don't know how to figure that out.
