harlan69mach 21 Report post Posted August 14, 2013 Need suggestions on removing the headlight harness from the firewall. I know it just plugs in but it has been there for 44 years and not the easiest thing to get a hold of.
Ry-speeed 14 Report post Posted August 14, 2013 Are you referring to where the square connector passes through the firewall between the booster and driver side hood hinge? If so, there is a bolt that sandwiches the connector halves together, accessed from under the dash on driver side.
danno 128 Report post Posted August 14, 2013 What he said... the headlight harness is on the radiator support, nowhere near the firewall. Do you mean the main engine compartment wire harness, that goes to the connector by the brake master cylinder? The bolt that Ry talked about is on the fuse panel. Unscrew that bolt, and the main engine wire harness will then unplug from the underdash harness.
harlan69mach 21 Report post Posted August 14, 2013 Thanks guys, I didn't know about the bolt. Yes it is the main harness in the engine compartment, runs to headlights, window washer pump, regulator & Alt.
stangs-R-me 121 Report post Posted August 17, 2013 As danno said, but after you remove the center bolt you need to pull the fuse block / unplug it 1st and move out of the way as there are 2 tabs on the engine compartment harness that hold it to the firewall. Because of these 2 tabs, you can't "pull" the plug from the firewall ... you must "push" it out from inside as you release the tabs. Doug
harlan69mach 21 Report post Posted August 17, 2013 Got it out and giving it a good cleaning. Need to replace a couple of the included clips and redo some of the wrap then it will be ready to go back in. This is one of the small details I didn't do when the engine was out. Should help the appearance of the engine compartment.
