Mike65 476 Report post Posted July 27, 2013 I am in the finishing stage of grinding the welds on the new r/s quarter skin & was wondering should I prime the bare metal before applying the Evercoat Rage Gold filler to the weld seam?. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
SWPruett 83 Report post Posted July 27, 2013 I prefer to lay a base of PPG DP40LF epoxy primer on everything before any finish work. Stuff sticks very well and is relatively easy to shoot. Hard to sand though!
MustangGT 11 Report post Posted July 27, 2013 Agree with SWPruett. Slap some epoxy down - no such thing as too much protection against rust. While the longer it sits the more of a pain it is to sand but the way I looked at it was if it was hard to sand then it will be equally as hard for water to get there and feed the rust gremlins. BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted July 27, 2013 i would skim the flanged joint with duraglass straight to the bare metal. after that's flat, follow that up with your lighter weight filler.
