edwards54 15 Report post Posted August 21, 2012 At around 70 miles per hour my steering wheel starts to bounce up and down. I was wondering if this is common for the 69 fastback or if there are some adjustments I need to make. any thoughts except stop speeding?
miketyler 15 Report post Posted August 21, 2012 Definitley dont stop speeding. Not a shimmy, but a vertical bounce? Is the column loose? Wheels have both been balanced?
DRASTiK 22 Report post Posted August 22, 2012 +1 on the wheel balance question. is this a rhythmic bounce where it starts, stops, starts, stops in a consistent rhythm?
MustangChuck 16 Report post Posted August 22, 2012 Definitely not normal. Had my 69 up and over 70 before (local section of the interstate was a 70 speed limit). No bounce at all. +1 more on the wheel/tire balance. I would think if the column were loose, you would feel it all the time. Chuck
jag 10 Report post Posted August 22, 2012 Vibration at 70 usually indicates wheel balance. JAG
stierg 10 Report post Posted September 1, 2012 I had a very simalar problem with my 69 stang after i changed my brake in front . You can see the answer bellow , and would be usefull check the bearings , the bearings set up solved my problem finally . Thank you for the inquiry and use of Wilwood Disc Brakes. We apologize for the delay in responding to your question, we have recently made updates to our email server, which caused some delays. Wheel vibration at speed is commonly caused by wheel unbalance and possibly a defect in the tire. You may also want to confirm that the hubs are tightened correctly and the suspension alignment is not off. Regards, Wilwood Disc Brakes I hope this help gabor
