Archon 10 Report post Posted November 17, 2011 So I have read quite a bit on what it could be but I just wanted to get some other opinions. I have some white/grey smoke coming out of my exhaust. It's not blue, it smells like gas, no sweetness , does not go away, and stays the same even when the engine is warm. I have a 302 with a ton of miles and old gas so that could also be the problem. Any ideas?
Pakrat 1,043 Report post Posted November 17, 2011 White smoke is actually steam most of the time and you likely have a bad head gasket. Check your coolant level in the radiator and look for bubbles while it is running. Also check to see if antifreeze has contaminated the oil, you'll know, it will look like a chocolate milkshake. Do not run the engine if the oil is contaminated with antifreeze as further damage can result.
LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted November 17, 2011 X2 on what Pak said. Black smoke is a rich fuel mixture, blue is oil, and white is unwanted moisture like engine coolant/antifreeze/water. Does the smoke you are seeing disapate like fog does? Bruce
Lemon Owner 11 Report post Posted November 18, 2011 Do as the other guys have said but if everything seems fine old fuel will do funny things. So if there is no water in the oil I would empty the tank and drive the car a little before doing anything major.
