Nightowl 10 Report post Posted October 24, 2011 On my 351W, I can get it turn over and start, but when I turn the engine off, the starter is still turning. The only way to stop it is to take the negative battery cable off the engine. What is the problem?
Grabber70Mach 107 Report post Posted October 24, 2011 I think you need to swap the two small wires on the starter solenoid.
relic1864 10 Report post Posted October 25, 2011 I had a 68 ford truck do the same thing. The starter selonoid on the starter is sticking and needs to be replaced. Just the selonoid not the starter needs replacing.
Nightowl 10 Report post Posted October 25, 2011 Thanks. I will do that, and hope it clears up the problem.
danno 128 Report post Posted October 25, 2011 You can test it by disconnecting one of the large wires to the solenoid and short across it to start the car. If the starter stops when you remove the wire, you have a bad solenoid. I was also wondering if your starter drive on the starter is not disengauging when the motor starts? Nightowl 10 Report post Posted October 25, 2011 I often thought that also. It doesn't get run much, so I sure hope it is disengaging.
