BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) what color is the base of the coil? is it semi gloss, flat, gloss, etc? Edited November 13, 2010 by BuckeyeDemon
Fordrevhead 29 Report post Posted November 13, 2010 ignition coil or front coil springs? since you are building a 418 I will assume you arent using a stock ignition coil, lol. front coil springs were just phosphate and oil finished like the hood hinges and latch. BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted November 13, 2010 (edited) sorry, i updated the title. i need to know about the ignition coil. it's an MSD blaster 3. i media blasted it. It would look like a sore thumb the way it was. I have around 24 parts ready for paint and this is the only item i need to know the finish for. thanks. 69RavenConv 286 Report post Posted November 13, 2010 My guess is semi-gloss. My 40-yr-old coil doesn't look like it ever sported a high-gloss finish.
Fordrevhead 29 Report post Posted November 13, 2010 I would say semi gloss as well. I painted one flat once and it definately was not right. Here's a concours correct Boss 429. It looks about the same as the brake booster.
jkskinsfan 19 Report post Posted November 13, 2010 I still have the Old Coil that was on mine. It appears to be the original (Yellow Top) and is in pretty bad shape, but it looks like the original color was something like Gun Metal Grey - Semi Gloss. Fordrevhead 29 Report post Posted November 13, 2010 (edited) This is from VMF, it is supposedly a correctly detailed 351 from a 69 Mach 1. It looks a bit more matte than on the Boss 429. Edited November 13, 2010 by Fordrevhead typo

buening 63 Report post Posted November 16, 2010 A little late to the party, but below is a picture of an original unrestored Cobra Jet with the coil. Kind of rough looking, but you get the idea for an untouched coil. I have about 70 pictures of this car, so if you need any other specific areas let me know! 69redcoupe 11 Report post Posted November 16, 2010 I will argue that the paint under the hood of that concourse correct BOSS is not correct... Ok, back on topic now...

Ok, back on topic now... safe bet something is wrong, but yeah, what? You'd better tell Mustang Monthly.
