Print Dad 58 Report post Posted March 2, 2010 Hello guyts, OK I'm a dummy but zi don't understand what I am looking at on the chart. What is back-space? I understand tire sizes Ok as far as side-wall height and tread width etc but don't know jack about the back-space. For example the new tires I got are 225/70/14. I know this is a fairly tall tire from the 70 series, I understand that the 225 is the width and 14 is the rim size. I could use some more education and explanation of the chart. Does this recommend the size Ford suggests? Thanks - - Print Dad
coz 108 Report post Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) Hey that chart is pretty cool.... I think the 235/45/17 fronts 275/40/17 rears in BFG KDs would look real good. An almost neutral stance in height and good back space numbers.... PD - some info on backspacing - yes it is important..... https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/fitting_tires_wheels/index.html 225/70/14 means 225mm wide, 70% of the width is the series or height of the sidewall from ground to rim and 14 is the diameter of wheel. 25.4mm per inch.... Tire width - 225mm / 25.4 = 8.86" Sidewall height .70 x 225mm / 25.4 = 6.20" I bet it you add up 6.2"*2 (height of both halves of the sidewall and add the 14" rim you will get your tire height = 26.4" height.
