Boogerschnot 12 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 I keep reading in places that I can use the stock FMX flexplate for my AOD swap. Even one of the transmission shops specializing in the swap said so, but can I use the stock 5.0 torque converter from the donor car also? Will it bolt up to the FMX flexplate? The flexplate is a 28oz bal. 164 tooth plate. Just as it calls for, but is the converter mounting bolt pattern different between the two?

6T9Mach1 12 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 Answered your PM...flexplate bolt hole locations should be the same. 11.5" I believe is the distance between the holes on a FMX flexplate. Measure the torque converter to verify; the only other pattern it could be is 10 3/4" (IIRC), but it should be the 11.5".

Trinitys 134 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 Answered your pm also...... We are lucky having the combination we have in our cars! Makes this swap a snap! No I did not shorten the drive shaft but I used the aod front yoke with spicer conversion u-joints and had the drive shaft balanced. The flex plate was a direct swap! Other things, I simply modified the existing shifter linkage. Reverse switch is in the shifter so you don’t have to worry about that.

Angel 24 Report post Posted February 4, 2010 You're gonna love it. I do. Go with the lokar kick down cable, makes for an easy install and looks good too.

Trinitys 134 Report post Posted February 4, 2010 agree completely! Lokar kick-down for me also. I'll try to find the pic of my carb linkage for you....you might need some ideas for that also.....I don't know but it can't hurt. The coolest thing is crusing at 60ish and feeling the car relax down into overdrive.

Boogerschnot 12 Report post Posted February 5, 2010 How about the yoke?? My transmission doesnt have one, just the spline on the rear. Which yoke do I have to go with. Angel I know you said you used a conversion but you had the yoke already, correct?

Trinitys 134 Report post Posted February 5, 2010 You need to use the aod yoke. These are really a dime a dozen at the yards. I took the yoke and shaft to a shop in San Diego to be balanced and they put a Spicer conversion universal on it that adapts the aod yoke to the mustang shaft. I’m sure this is available at any auto parts store. I also had the shaft balanced there too. This is where I took it. You could call and ask which u-joint to use.
