Protowrxs 111 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Trans-FMX Automatic (hows this differeant from normal auto trans?) The FMX was the mid level trans for the late 60's. Basically between a C4 and a C6. Mine was originally equipped with an FMX as well since it was a 351W car.
Sidthing 10 Report post Posted November 29, 2009 The FMXs are cast iron, and not as good as a c4 or c6, plus they are hard to find parts for says the guy that rebuilt my dads. I have three if you want them, just come and pick them up.
Protowrxs 111 Report post Posted November 29, 2009 True - a built C4 will easily out perform an FMX AND use less power than a C6. But if you're going for a restoration it would be the 'correct' tranny. I ran a small block housing C6 for a while as well but a C4 in the end and it was better all around. Easier to install/remove as well. :-)
Sidthing 10 Report post Posted November 29, 2009 Correct restorations are for trailer queens. I'm all about using modern technology to make my cars better than 1969 specs so when these hoity toity new car buffs want to talk smack against my forty year old mustang, I can prove them wrong and look better while doing it. Long live these damn mustangs.
Truck 12 Report post Posted November 29, 2009 The guys I know who have FMX's won't get off of them. (There's a "trick" to getting them to work effeciently.) On that note, I'd love to come pick one up Sid-but I don't have the means at the moment.

Sidthing 10 Report post Posted November 30, 2009 Pick one up? I'd make you take all of them.
Truck 12 Report post Posted December 7, 2009 Check that. I just saw your location. Think you might hold on to them til spring?
Max Power 74 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 Correct restorations are for trailer queens. In polite terms, I disagree.
