rchappelear 28 Report post Posted November 2, 2009 I have a 69 mustang project i am doing right now, and am looking forward to placing a 9" rear end in my car. I have a guy who has a 1970 cougar 9" rear end. Will this fit on the 69 mustang? and is $200 complete a good price? thank you Ryan
grendi 16 Report post Posted November 2, 2009 according to my info, a 1970 cougar has the same rear axle width as a 67-70 mustang (59.25"). so that rear end should fit your car.
S code 69 13 Report post Posted November 2, 2009 All 67-70 Mustangs and Cougars used the same width rear end. $200 is a decent price, if it's a trac loc it's a steal.
jmlay 80 Report post Posted November 2, 2009 I believe the Cougar rear used different spring pads. The pads allow for a rubber pad to help isolate the housing from the springs/body.
S code 69 13 Report post Posted November 2, 2009 Yes they did, you can use them if you want or leave them off. I left them off my Mach 1 but if the rear end doesn't come down once I get all the weight back in it I'm going to have to add the pads back in it. seems a little high as it is. S code 69 13 Report post Posted November 2, 2009 You know I might be wrong on that, you might have to use the pads not only for the height but I think the blocks move the rear end back an inch or so. I need to check this out.
midnightrider101 10 Report post Posted November 2, 2009 It will work, but make sure you use a 69 rear brake hose & the 70 was different. You can always use a reducing fitting. $200 is a great buy if its complete. I have a complete ready to bolt on 69 9 inch with 3.00:1 ratio & an extra 3rd memeber of 3.25:1 ratio & an extra pair of axles I'd sell for $
