Quarter panel extensions

Recommended Posts

I am a little confused. I dug out my quarter panel extensions (69 fastback). I noticed that one was much heavier than the other. The drivers side was made out of pot metal, and the passenger side was made out of fiberglas or plastic. They both have C9ZB part numbers. I thought it was odd to have original 69 parts made out of different materials. Does anyone know if this is common?

I have heard that it can be found on many examples. Change over from pot metal to fiberglass to save money, but extra inventory has to go first. Could also be an over the counter part to repair accident damage years ago.

I think this is true. My early '69 Fastback (build date Dec. 26, 1968) has both pot metal QP extensions. My friend's '70 Mach 1 has both fiberglass.
