  4. I would stick with the solid color, and if over time you are bored with it, you can always have stripes painted on.

  6. That is really good to know. I was a little curious about that recommendation of using WD40, and I didn't think of the issue of paint lift later on. I will look into the brands of primer that you mentioned. Is it expensive and does it go on with an ordinary spray gun and compressor. Bill
  7. I think that is the best idea, at least then I can still work on the car. The idea of having a lube of some sort all over the car really limits me. Bill
  8. The 69 convertible that I currently was purchased part through a restoration. The one floor is out, the whole car has been sand blasted and the rear quarters have been replaced. There is bare metal with some surface rust,e tc showing. There is a quantity of welding that is needed to be done. I was hoping to get the car welded and into primer before the winter, but the resoration place I went to says it will be close to $10,000 to get it that way, because he has to have good doors and quarters when doing the floor so it all lines up, etc. I told him that I don't have 10G's and I don't want to leave the car bare for too long. He suggested that I get a couple cans of WD40 and grease the whole car and store it away until I am ready to put some money into it. He stated that the grease will protect the car and when it is time to restore it, the whole will have to be blasted anyways. Has anyone heard of this before? Am I better off doing this or buying cans of primer to spray the car. I do have a compressor and could buy some self etching primer to spray the car as well, at least it would be protected, etc. My game plan for this car is to collect parts for the next couple of years and then start building it when I have the money.   9. What automatic transmission do you recommend if I have a 3:25 gear. Also is there anything that needs to be done to the tranmission if I am running a 3:25 gear ratio. Bill
  10. I never realized that one thing affected the other so much. As for wheel size, I have no idea what tire size I would go with. I was anticipating using Magnum 500's, so I would imagine that I would be somewhat limited. The car is a convertible that used to have a 6 cylinder. I know where I can get a 390 block, but I have a 351. It maybe more affordable and easier to use the 351. As for a transmission, the car I am parting out has one, what it is I am not sure. I also have a coupe with an original 302 with a C-4 Cruise-O-Matic. It also has a 2.79 standard axle ratio if that helps. The 302 has not been turned for 12-15 years, where the 351 appears to be fresher. I don't think that I have a 9 inch rear end, does tghis make sense if the ratio is 2.79. Learning from the link I was given; "With a lower gear ratio the drive shaft (and thus the engine) turns more for each revolution of the wheel, delivering more power and torque to the wheel for any given speed. Lower ratios are generally desirable when going off-road. Higher ratios are better for freeway driving since they run at lower RPM’s and offer better fuel economy." Bill from Ottawa
  11. If I am thinking of putting a 351 or a 390 in my convertible, what rear end should I look at. What difference do the ratios mean.   12. It is just my opinion, but everyone has there own reason for coming to this site. As a newbie to Mustang restoration, I needed a forum where I can ask advice, and rely upon that advice as being truthful. The unfortunate part of the Internet, is that fools can run amuck, and there really is whole that we can do about it. I believe that 69 Mustang owners are a special breed, and the time and respect that the users on this site have given me has been very much useful.   13. I have seen both flat and gloss, and because of the flat black not being able to get waxed or bird dropping, I like the gloss better. If you do some searches under images, you may find some of both and decide what you like. Have fun, Bill from Ottawa

  18. I was watching the top 10 nerd movies, and a nerd was defined as someone who cares about something, and knows alot about it. So are we Mustang nerds? If so, what do we look like, how would I pick you out of a crowd. Here are just a few indicators; 1. You have some form of a mustang emblem on your clothing, Tshirt, watch, etc. 2. You receive a monthly subscription to Mustang monthly. 3. You own more than two hotwheels of the Mustang body style you prefer. 4. You spend part of everyday thinking about your mustang. Provide any others that you think may describe a Mustang nerd. Bill from Ottawa
  19. The reality of the situation is, that you most likely have already made up your mind, but are just getting cold feet. It is sort of like the day before getting married, is this something I want to have for the rest of my life, etc...what will it look like when I am 60, and yes I am talking about my wife, not the tattoo.... I suggest that you start of with a small ford or mustang emblem on a discreet part of your body. If you are not really keen on it, then you can keep it covered and no one needs to know, but if it becomes a good experience then you may want to get another, etc. Sort of like having a girlfriend while you are married....oh and by the way, I don't have any tattoo's... but I have been looking......
