  1. I had a couple engine builders say to use Rotella T for break in. Anyone use this oil? I'm assuming starting an engine that hasn't run since 1990 a break in... I plan on using assembly lube on the lifters and rockers...
  2. I gotta find mine.. It's somewhere in my storage mess!!
  3. Not sure if it's OEM.. but it's bias ply and pretty cool... These were in the truck and hiding behind the tire.. they look to be in pretty good shape.. I think I'll use them!!.. Man.. gas from 1983 STINKS!!! I ran about 1-1/2 gallons of Acetone through the gas lines. Stopped stinking and debris really calmed down... Hoping! Sending unit looks OK to me!
  4. Sorry Brian... Only thing I think I'll keep is the stripe kit.. Send PM's please. I forget to check this posting. Thanks.
  5. Here's a front and rear valance.. Have interest and both front fenders.. I'll make a deal and deliver... Front valance.. they're going for $800 on interwebs.. I'll take $500 Back panel is for single exhaust.. I'll take $150... Here's both front and rear bumpers.. most people asking $1500 a pair.. how about $1000??? Make a deal on both front fenders and I'll deliver too..!!!
  6. I have lots of NOS parts. Got front / rear valances. Got both front / rear bumpers. Got some trim pieces (some destroyed through the years). Got 2 driver side quarter emblems.. yeah.. thought I bought passenger / driver.. but two driver sides... Got NOS stripes.. ask of you want something...
  7. Machine shop has had the head for about 6 weeks.. claim they're working on them now. What 's the best way to remove head gaskets? Been working with razer blades.. got one side about half done.. vacuuming up what I scrape off... how clean is clean???
  8. Humm.. These were $50 a pop delivered... with 700 tread wear... I see major smoke in their future... some time with a buffer.. looks pretty good...
  9. I has brakes!!!! yeah! Man. I hate drums. But objective is to just get her running... here she has no wheels.. ready for a bleed... Really surprised at how well the interior has held up... Amazing how things you thought was a good idea when you were 17 years old, are pretty horrific when you're 55 years old.. the stereo installation was an epic failure. It's all pulled out now... I had to pull the seat to get my fat a$$ under the dash for hooking up the master cylinder... too bad this seat will turn to dust as I start to sit in it again.. :( This little rascal was a major PITA to get installed!! Then comes the comical bleeding... about 2/3rds a quart through it... no air... but the peddle won't hold.. damn.. bad master cylinder... rear is on jackstands on the axle... left the jack on the pumpkin... one of the connections on the rear hose leaking... didn't notice until had a son step on the peddle and see it drip.. of coarse.. I didn't notice the massive puddle under the jack!!
  10. Starting this again. Folks. I've got LOTS of NOS parts I bought late 70s, early 80s. Got emblems. Got stripes (somewhere). Got pretty much all trim pieces. This is for the fenders. Local pickup or I'll deliver up to 1000 miles at $0.50 a mile (figure St. Louis as starting point for reference). If I deliver, the paper comes off. These are the real McCoys. Some slight mouse damage in one front bucket, Only took off some of the primer, walnut blasting would make them pristine.. $2k for both (local Mustang shop said he'd ask $3k for the pair).. I'm not going to use NOS parts cause I won't stay stock. If you are looking for something.. ask... I can take more pics.. ask if you want to see more.
  11. This is surreal at best... I've loved this car since I was 9 years old... I've owned this particular car for basically my whole life.. technically 70% of it anyway.. Part of me thinks it's sacrilegious to even touch it. Part of me is like, meh, get it running.. piece it together... Another part of me thinks it's a sin to make any modifications... I still know absolutely every square inch of this car. Every ding. Every knot. Every blemish.. Most of the corners have the paint worn away from waxing it so often... I courted my lovely bride in this car... we've made love in this car.. I don't know... I've never really been this torn over a material object before... But in the end.. it's just a car... I really want to drive it again.. windows down.. wind in my so gray hair... fountain of youth perhaps? No.. Mortality is tough to face... :P :P :P
  12. Think I'll leave this here... picture from 1978... :) I have very few pictures of myself. Sad thing is this looks exactly like my youngest son. I put my arm around him and apologized...
  13. Amen Brother.. Amen!! I'm lucky... I use the glass bead cabinet at work. Front lines are fighting back. I'm bringing in reinforcements. They're not gonna win!
  14. Still shocked how easy it is to get parts... While heads at machine shop... got rear axle done this weekend... Humm... 47 year old rubber might not be so great ... This is the only hard line that I twisted off too.. I don't know.. anything I take off, I have to glass bead blast and paint... It's a sickness.. :)
  15. Hehehehe... all in time... all in time.. :) Right now, the focus is just to get her running... big power build yet to come.. Dropped off a couple horse heads at the machine shop today! :) :) :)
  16. I like the way you think!!!
  17. Hummm.. is there a problem or not...???? Happy news is the short block seems to be in pretty good shape... Started it on seven year old gas in the late 80s to 1990. Mistake. Intake runners filled with varnish. 5 push rods bent.. a couple pretty good.. this all from rotating the engine by hand... pretty surprising considering I'm an old fat outta shape guy!!!
  18. I've got a set of NOS ones! :)
  19. Cooper Cobras... about 3-1/2 bills http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?ra=filterTireProducts.do&fl=&yr=1969&pc=27430&counter=0&ar=70&rd=14&vid=008793&cs=215
  20. Thanks! Pretty sure I'm just going to put the stock 14" back on for now.. Discount tire has a set of 4 tires for like 3 bills..
  21. Surprisingly enough the jam nuts backed right off... found that heating these with Mapp gas and then dousing with a 50/50 mixture of ATF and Acetone works wonders.. watch out for the fire though! :) Thanks for the tips.. head does have to come off but I'll try the twisting and back towards firewall method!
  22. Been hanging around technical forums... when I spun the engine... musta had an intake valve stuck and it pulled a rocker stud out of the head... Found local shop to rebuild heads and install hardened seats... Also found local place to rebuild FMX... need to decide what to do... just get running or freshen up some to drive... I need to get my Pop's stang out of my Mom's garage.. so probably just get it running will do..
  23. Guessing you have to yank the passenger side motor mount and jack up engine to get this silly thing off??? Can't even pull 2 and 3 exhaust studs out...
