turn signal

After making a right hand turn my turn signal switch cancels as it should but most of the time travels to far and turns on the left turn signal. Any thoughts? Is the switch bad or in need of a little grease? All works as it should when I signal for a left turn. Thanks.   Dave R.

The plastic cam inside under the steering wheel may have been damaged due to age. Pull the wheel and take a look to see what is going on. B.

Thanks B. The switch feels ok when I move the lever but I guess it is worn. I'll put that on my "off season to-do list".   Dave R

So the cam can be replaced by itself? Guessing that the switch is original, 48 years next month, I think a replacement switch is the smart move. Thanks again Bruce.   Dave R.

I might have an extra cam if you want to just replace it.  Otherwise the whole thing is probably due for replacement.  48 years...

Yeah, unless you have a Thoroughbred class car, you might want to replace the whole switch as apposed to just the cam.  Which, yes, can be changed separately.  B.
