69 mustang 4 spd shift linkage

Recommended Posts

i am about ready to pull my hair that i have left out, I have my mustang about ready to start and noticed that the shift rods for the toploader are not long enough especially reverse, I was wondering if anyone had the same problem, Yea I probably should have put a hurst shifter in it but I put the original shifter in. The rods are repro but the packaging said 65-68 on it, I was researching it I found some that NPD sells but they are out of stock and they are specifically for a 69 year only, I also thought about cutting the old one and welding some rod to lengthen them, any thoughts would be greatly appreciatly.

Assuming you can return the rods you purchased you can return them & find a correct set, repro or good used. Or you could likely spend the same money for a new Hurst shifter with rods. The other option is have a custom set made, likely any of the big name toploader re builders could point you in the correct direction.
