metalgraver 12 Report post Posted February 21, 2014 I am dismantling my 69 Mach 1 for a total restoration. I pulled the rear end out last night. The numbers on the tag are WES-AA 9GC 3.00 9 952A. I looked these numbers up and it looks like I have a 9" with 3.00 gears. Also it is not a Posi-traction. I will be putting back in the 351W with a T5 transmission behind it. The 351W will have some slight upgrades such as a new intake and mild cam but nothing to run on the track. How will this rear end perform with this set up as a daily driver? or an occasional street race? Should I consider replacing the gears to something like a 3.50 and should I turn it into a posi-traction? :online2long:
fvike 173 Report post Posted February 21, 2014 It will do just fine. If you want to upgrade, I'll recommend a Detroit Tru-Trac diff. Very happy with mine. I run 3.70 gears.
Zipppo 11 Report post Posted February 22, 2014 Depends on the type of driving you will be doing in my opinion. 5 speed with 3:00 open on freeway will get you good MPG and low rpm. Go with a Posi if you are gonna drag race and yes if racing is what you will do go with like 3:91 or 4:10 out back. Otherwise just leave it be
metalgraver 12 Report post Posted February 24, 2014 I thought so. I will not be dragging it on the strip, maybe an occasional midnight run for fun. Can I do the upgrade myself?
