ksquared 13 Report post Posted April 8, 2013 At a car show last night I got to see an original 69 428CJ. I noticed it had a wrap around metal brace around the base of the bottom front of the shock tower. It may have wrapped all the way around but I couldn't see. Was this a Ford stock thing or something that was added after market? It was about 3/16" thick and 3-4" tall.
MustangGT 11 Report post Posted April 8, 2013 (edited) They are shock tower reinforcements. There are several folks out there selling them. I got mine from Forrest at Sanco Specialties - he was very helpful and took the time to answer any of my questions. He even sent some photos to show how they install. Check out his website at: http://www.sancospecialties.com/mustang.htm Edited April 8, 2013 by MustangGT

Unkleen 11 Report post Posted April 8, 2013 Was this a Ford stock thing or something that was added after market? Stock on original 428 and Boss 302 cars. Those cars had reinforced shock towers from the factory.
maxum96 32 Report post Posted April 8, 2013 Stock on original 428 and Boss 302 cars. Those cars had reinforced shock towers from the factory. And factory on anything with a 390 or bigger starting in 1968. But there have been cases of factory 351 powered cars that got them and big block cars that should have had them, but didn't. Cayenne06 10 Report post Posted April 8, 2013 My 390 has them. And if you have a big block with them good luck with installing headers. Dealing with that problem right now, but that's another thread......
SELLERSRODSHOP 13 Report post Posted April 9, 2013 saw a bb car once that had never been wrecked with the factory sheetmetal that had the bb reinforcement on one side, but not on the other.
