Fordrevhead 29 Report post Posted September 4, 2011 I thought this was a well done practical test with the results that I expected. http://www.autobodystore.com/filler_&_epoxy.shtml
jkskinsfan 19 Report post Posted September 4, 2011 VERY INTERESTING! I've always applied Body Filler directly to Bare Metal, and wondered how it would work over Epoxy. Now I know. Thanks for the article, Fordrevhead. Much appreciated.
BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted September 5, 2011 i routinely get hammered on the forums for commenting that i sometimes put filler directly to metal. it's comical.
RogerC 136 Report post Posted September 5, 2011 I was never comfortable with applying body filler to anything other than bare metal.
BuckeyeDemon 211 Report post Posted September 5, 2011 i'm really not concerned about adhesion issues with filler on epoxy. most of my filler is probably a maximum of 1/8". the part i find amazing is how people believe the car is going to rust out because filler was applied to the metal. somehow these people manage to never have any contact of a sandable primer or filler to the metal when the are doing bodywork. they must be good. it generally takes me at least two applications to get it level and i pretty much always cut through the epoxy when doing filler work using 80 grit.
