coloradostang 10 Report post Posted July 16, 2011 I just installed a Edelbrock double roller timing chain in a 1978 351W block. The fuel pump eccentric sticks out to far now and I cant put the cover on. Do I need a different eccentric or do I need to go with a electric fuel pump? If so, how hard is it to change over to an electric pump?( 69 convertible.) Thanks!
Fordrevhead 29 Report post Posted July 16, 2011 You have the stock one piece eccentric right? I think you may have an 85 and up double sprocket set which is thicker and meant for the two piece eccentric.
coloradostang 10 Report post Posted July 16, 2011 (edited) Yeah it looks like it is for a 73-90. Will a double roller fit under a 69 timing cover? Or do I need to use a single? I have a stock one, but Edelbrock warns not to use them because they retard the cam, Sujestions? Yes it is a single eccentric. I was also wondering, I have a holley electric fuel pump sitting in my garage. Could I leave the eccentric off and run the electric pump? Does anyone know if it is diffucult to switch to a electric pump? Edited July 16, 2011 by coloradostang
LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted July 16, 2011 Lots of guys run double rollers under their timing covers. For some reason you have the wrong combination of cover, timing set, cam, or eccentric you just have to figure out which it is. You can leave the eccentric off, just make sure the cam bolt does not bottom out when you torque it down. I hate electric pumps. That said they are best mounted close to the tank as they are better at pushing fuel than pulling fuel if you get my drift. Bruce
stangs-R-me 120 Report post Posted July 17, 2011 I put an '85 HO 5.0L in my '67 Fairlane using a double roller chain set & '67 timing cover and stock fuel pump so it can work with the right parts. This was done back in the early 90's, so I don't remember exactly what brand chain set I used but I'm 99% sure I used the 1 pc. eccentric. Doug
coloradostang 10 Report post Posted July 17, 2011 The engine is a 78, the timing cover is off my old 69, I think the eccentric is off the 78. I am thinking I need a newer cover or an older eccentric. Did they change the width of the eccentric? Would a newer cover bolt up to my 69 water pump, and not cause fan clearence issues? Also is there suposed to be a oil slinger on there too, if so I have lost track of that. Thanks everyone!
