Revrandall 10 Report post Posted February 9, 2011 Any recommendations on where I can get some of the convertible trim on my 69 vert. repaired? The chrome around my top well has some attachment studs broken off, and I have some damage on my stainless windshield trim. Just wondering if anyone has tried any of the companies, I think one source I heard about was called Snake Oil. ?
Pakrat 1,043 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 I have never had to have this done thankfully but it will not be cheap most likely, with time and patience you can do pretty good on your own though. The studs on the hockey sticks are easy, I had a few broken myself. Some flat head machine screws the right length and some JB wled is all you need, I think they were 8/32 but can't remember. Repairing dents and dings takes simple tools and patience really, it's the time factor that costs you the most for it not the complexity. Stainless is very forgiving when working it since it doesn't really stretch. http://www.hotrod.com/howto/3401_stainless_trim_repair/index.html http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/repairing_stainless_steel_trim/index.html
Revrandall 10 Report post Posted February 15, 2011 Thanks for the reply. Not sure I'll try the repair to the stainless trim pieces, I'd sure hate to ruin them, but your instruction for the hockey sticks repair made me think,Why didn't I think of that? LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted February 15, 2011 I used small body hammers combined with light tapping to take the dents out of my vertical door glass trim. Then used finer and finer grits of wet/dry sand paper to finish them off. They look better than new. Just take your time and go slow on the window trim then polish them out by hand. unfrozen1969 11 Report post Posted February 20, 2011 I am assuming that you can't buy new reproduction parts, or look for replacement parts.
Revrandall 10 Report post Posted February 26, 2011 I've looked for replacements with no luck. The hood lip trim is available but the repro. part doesn't match up as well as the Ford part. It's a little short. Mine was perfect until I bumped into something in my garage. Used Hockey sticks are usually worse than what I've got and their not being reproduced, as far as I know. Pakrat 1,043 Report post Posted February 26, 2011 (edited) Actually a company in Canada has been reproducing the chrome hockey stick moldings for 69-70 verts for the very first time since around the fall of 08'. They are about the same price or less as a re-chrome job and we have had a few members now that bought them and said the quality and fit were very good. http://moparplus.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=47&products_id=893&osCsid=74ce4a9d0089cb23f912b58622af1788 Edited February 26, 2011 by Pakrat
