relic1864 10 Report post Posted January 13, 2010 I bought some new outside chrome door handles. Are these hard to put on? Anything I need to know before I try putting them on?
PaleRider 12 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 Not hard. Once you pull panels it pretty easy to spot what you have to do
69RestoRod 10 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 You'll need to use a 1/4 combo wrench to remove the nut on the stud inside the door, you'll have to do it by feel. A ratchet won't fit without removing the glass. Use a flat headed screw driver to remove the rod clips if it still has the original metal ones.
foothilltom 33 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 Yeah, and be gentle pulling those rod clips apart. They can be pretty brittle after 40 years and break easily. And be sure to lube up your latch and locking mechanisms as long as you're in there with the door panel off. I'm sure they'll need it.
