69Tool 16 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 Hello, Yesterday, the car arrived. Overall, I would say that the car is nice, perhaps a 7 out of 10. I was able to quickly align the rear quarter extension and it looks better. The hood sits too high on the driver's side and needs to be moved back about 1/8th of an inch, as well as the doors require some aligning. The paint is nice, has 1 chip on the hood and I would rate the overall paint job as a 7.5 out of 10. It is very shiny and perhaps just needs to be buffed. The magnum 500 wheels are brand new. The interior is in good shape, the seats have all been recovered and the molded plastic components have been repainted. It has the in-dash clock and all of the Mach 1 woodgrain components. The door panels are not good, but I have the set out of the 1969 that are in good shape with the woodgrain. It does not have the fold down rear seat, but again, I kept the one out of my 1969. It still requires the seat belts to be installed as well. The headliner was not done very well, but is new. It is not smooth. The motor sounds rough in idle, but I am now convinced it is more due to the cam. It runs and responds really well. It has a holley 700 cfm carb. The exhaust will be replaced soon as it is 2" from the headers (long tube) back. It does not have an H or X pipe either, just straight back from the headers. I have the magnaflow system that I will be putting on, which is 2 1/2". Is that the right thing to do? Thoughts? The transmission is an FMX automatic, I haven't got the car insurance card so I didn't test it much, but it seems to shift smoothly. It does slip out of Park though so I think I need to simply adjust the linkage to resolve it. Worst case scenario is that I will have to put in the rebuilt FMX from the 69. I know, it appears the 69 has become a parts car, but that will not be the case...:tongue_smilie: It has an open differential and I am not sure of the gears. I also have a rebuilt 3.25 posi diff that I will be installing. With some very minor work to get it passed inspection such as seat belts, signal lights and a horn, the car will be a whole bunch of fun for the summer while I can still tinker on the odds and ends. Boogerschnot 12 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 I would definately take the 2 inch exhaust off and add the H pipe with your 2.5 inch system.. that will help out a good bit. Im glad you found it to be a good deal!
bnickel 10,004 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 everything you have planned sounds good, though i would consider going with a slightly smaller cam if you plan on driving it a bunch
