69 mustang doesnt want to start

hello all

I have a 69 mustang with a 302 2v (stock motor) auto engine cranks but does not start and only starts when i put a squirt of fuel down the carb it will then run for about less than a minute then die,if i crank again it just spins but doesnt fire unless i squirt fuel in,and yes there is plenty of fuel in tank.

Well, you already know the problem, no fuel to carb....I would do the following.

 

1 ) replace thefuel filter

 

2 ) You could have a clogged pickup tube, to test this disconnect the fuel line somewhere that is lower than the tank and gravity should force the fuel out of the line.

 

If you do both of these then it may be the Float is stuck in the carb, or you have a bad fuel pump....all are easy to figure out...

I'm thinking it's the fuel pump. The fuel pumps on those engines are mechanical Thus if it is not working no fuel will be pumped to the engine. A relatively cheap replacement.
