Waiting Till Sept.

Recommended Posts

Well I am restoring my 69 mustang and I finally got it the point were I can drive it. So you know the next thing you have to do is register the car, well I went to the dmv and I had to fill out all the usual paper work then they verified my vin. I thought I was good to go. Then I saw the lady that was helping me out take out a vanilla envelope with some 2007 plates. In my head I was telling my self they are going to take my original plates. So I told the lady I don’t wont those plates I want to keep my original black and gold plates. So I ended up doing more paper work and have to wait till sept to see if they will let me keep my orig plates.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

In MD you can get a set of 2007 plates and keep them in your car with your registration and you can hang your original tags on the car.

Lots of guys do that and you see the "old" plates being sold at Carlisle and such.

I went with personalized historic plates but most of my buddies run plates from their car's year or get custom plates made like these.

I didn't know you coud do that in Maryland, COZ. That's cool. Thanks for the info and thanks for the Links.

Yeah you can get one made in your year and whatever you want for #'s and letters.

My buddy has 6T7GTO on his with the black background and the yellow lettering.

Just make sure you have it registered in MD with valid plates (doesn't have to be historic either) and keep them in the car.

Here's a link to vintage vanity plates.

Click on vanity plates link in the left hand bar.

Mine is 69 PONY. I wanted PONYPWR but it was taken in MD. However, if you get "regular" tags through the MVA you can get PONYPWR made and run them. So in theory there can be more than one car running around with the same lettering on the plate.

My old 69 Stang convertible in FL had POTGAR. Anyone guess what that is?

Fast69Stang...

What does your state say about this idea?

Could you have been able to keep your old plates and temporarily use

the new issue ones and then have your old plates transfered over

when they clear? By temporarily I mean they are used in the mean

time by you so your able to get out and drive:thumbup:

well its been awhile for this thread. i went to my mail box the other day and i found an envelope from the DMV. It stated that i could keep my origanl plates and the new month and year tags inside so know i can drive my car without the temp decal. yes!
