T-5 buying guide...

Does anybody have any advice on buying a T-5? I can get one from a 1987 SVO Stang, but I don't have a clue what to look for.

There is tons of info out there on this conversion. I'll see if I can't find some of my links that I saved from my old work computer. This one has good general info on what you do and don't want though.

Wern't the SVO's 4 cyln turbo cars? You'd need to get a v8 bellhousing.

 

Your best choice is a T5 from a 90-93 Mustang 5.0

2nd best is a T5 from a 86-89 mustang 5.0

 

I wouldn't bother with any other T5's unless you get it for free or almost free.

 

Definately make sure you get a T5 that came in a V8 car.

Yes. You'll need to switch to a T5 speedo gear tho.

pretty sure the t-5 uses the same style gear as an automatic. i thought only the toploaders and drag pak cars used a different gear.

You are probably right. I did have problems with my swap tho.. The speedo gear fit fine and worked, but the teeth area was too wide and ended up binding and stripping the teeth. I didn't even know it was a problem until I pulled the gear out a few days later and found that about 1/2 of each tooth had been wiped out. Might have been something funny with my particular install/setup tho.
