Vacuum Trunk Release

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever heard/seen one of these?

I picked it up off ebay after checking out the latch. It appears the latch is the same as the 69/70 Stang (and other Fords of that year) and I think I can use my electric solenoid to trigger it (pull the lever). Kind of interesting though.. a vacuum version.

I want the electric version but the only ones I've seen are way over priced for what they are. I picked that up for $19.99

Edit: Ha.. now I see someone has 5 of the electric versions for $49 each.. last one I saw was $79.

If it's really odd or rare I'd hate to break it up but nobody else even bid on it.

the latch is the same as the cable pull type, scott drake sells repro cable assemblies. i think the vacuum unit was used on lincolns and maybe t-birds of the late 60's and early 70's. it would be worth hanging onto the vacuum control part and not butchering i would think. you could alsway build a bracket to attach the electric solenoid and the latch itself shouldn't need any mods at all to work with the electric solenoid.

here is the cable latch release

Yeah my plan is to use a solenoid I have to just pull the arm from a button in the glove box. Knew I kept that old solenoid for some reason - lol.

I searched a little more and found several other vacuum based one.

If anyone is interested in the electric version here's the ebay link:

$49.00 buy it now. It sure makes for a cleaner install.

Thanks...

i've got one of the electric versions. if you look hard enough at local wrecking yards a lot of 70's and some 80's fords and lincolns used those electric releases. i used to have one of the cable pull type releases but then i got one of the electric units so i sold the cable one to a guy that was restoring a 68 shelby that had one originally.

I have an original style cable trunk release, using the same latch you have. I really like it and I'm surprised it wasn't more popular.

Rather then run vacuum lines or electric lines, I think the cable-release kit from Scott Drake is the way to go. Normally that latch goes on ebay for $50.
