rockheretic 10 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 When I turn off my engine and remove the key, the engine continues to run. It is not backfiring or dieseling. I disconnect battery ground and that doesnt stop it. Sounds like a bad ground but where? Thanks
buening 63 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Mine did the same and it was the ignition switch. THe switches are different on the 70 cars compared to the 69 cars.
bnickel 10,004 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 yeah sounds like the ignition switch to me too. disconnecting the negative battery cable won't really do anything as long as the alternator is working
mymach 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Could also be the starter relay (most call it a solenoid, but it's technically a relay...). If it shorts out it will feed the ignition circuit even with the key off. This happened to my '69 Fairlane years ago. Just a thought.
351carlo 10 Report post Posted September 26, 2006 Easiest thing to mess up, the plugs on the starter relay. There are two slip on connectors, and if reversed the engine will continue to run even after the key is removed. Ask me how I know :censored: If I remember correctly, when looking at it, the red wire goes on the right.
BAMF69 11 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 I just wired my mustang and if you connect the ignition wire on/off to a constant 12v connection the car will start but won't turn off because theirs still a power source to that wire. Since i couldn't find a wiring diagram for a 69 here's one for a 68 that should help..
