  1. Well last night was a bad, bad night for car work. I have cut out the passenger side torque box and most of the floor. It was a tough go as the person that did the 'repairs' before did some weird stuff...That is where the sweating came in. The tears part comes in when I had a look at the frame rail...Much worse than I had previously hoped....:scared: So now I am going to have to repair the rail.... And the blood....Well just as I was cutting my last cut of the night the Zip wheel exploded and implanted part of the wheel in my knee...Right through my coverall and my jeans and into my leg...:helpsmilie: ... Blood, sweat and tears all in one night...I will post pics later, I really wasn't into taking pics last night after all that happened. Thank the Lord for whiskey...
  2. Where exactly are they stamped ? I am replacing all my aprons, I should think about stamping the new ones in the appropriate spot....
  3. Very nice !! Gotta love it when you start putting the car back together !!
  4. Actually I ran a bead of seam weld along the bottom. Its a 2 part product that some say is stronger than a weld. Myself, I don't believe it. A lot of guys are using it for door skins. That is why I had a fire. The seam weld is apparently flammable. I did weld in spots under the floor as well. Along the back and all along the drivers side where the floor meets the rocker. Also I spot welded along the frame rails. Then I went around the whole floor, both top and bottom, with Sikaflex. I made sure that there was no way any water could get through. The car is not on a rotisserie...I wish...So basically I was welding while laying on my back...Good times right there !!!:scared: Tonight I finish welded a few areas on the firewall on the drivers side. When I took off the inner fenders there was a few holes on the firewall. I also closed up the gap between the torque box and the toe board and finished off all the little areas that needed a little attention. This weekend I will start on the passenger side...right from scratch...all over again.....Oh the humanity !!!
  5. Well today I finally finished the drivers side floor....I gotta tell ya...If anyone is reading this....That's a $hit load of welding !!!:whistling: Tomorrow night I will spray some paint on the floor. Not for any other reason other to say that I have some paint on the car !!...Actually, paint will not take up any moisture when dry. Primer may. So it's best to spray some paint over the primer.
  6. Well I worked a few hours tonight and finally have the drivers side floor pan tack welded in. I had a little scare when the car caught fire but thankfully I had a fire extinguisher handy.:scared:... What happened was this. I thought it would be smart to put a bead of sealer where the floor pan and torque box meet up on the lower side. When I started to spot weld I guess the sealer caught fire. I didn't notice it right away as I had the welding helmet on. But I smelt something funny and took off the helmet and YIKES....There she was, in flames from underneath !! I had the fire extinguisher on the wall so it was an easy put out but I was a little rattled !!! But the floor is in !! I'll finish the welding tomorrow night and etch prime/seal it. Then over to the passenger side.
  7. Im not sure what its called either. Im just really glad it's in good solid shape !! I thought of removing it to sandblast it and clean it up but I though better of it. And I'm glad I did. I don't want to get the alignment out of whack and have a nightmare trying to line up fenders and doors. I didn't get a chance to work on the floor last night, I had a hockey game and stayed a little late at the bar afterwards....:whistling:.....So hoefully tonight I will have it in place....
  8. I don't mean to highjack this thread, but Im looking at re-doing my wireharness as well. If you don't mind, Boogerschnot, could you answer me a few questions ? How hard was the harness to install ? Did you use the RETRO Series kit they have ? What about all the instrument panel connections ? Thanks !! Ken
  9. Well, small progress, but progress none the less. The toe board is now completely welded in. I did the final modifications to the floor pan and did the final dry fit. I have drilled all the holes for the spot welding and I painted the frame rails with black frame paint. Hopefully I will have the floor welded in tomorrow.
  10. Damn !! I hate Calgary !!!OH well....Now I gotta pay off all those bets !! So much for the Boss 302 Crate engine !!! :-)
  11. Well I have the drivers side toe board in. I had to fabricate it myself, but it worked out pretty good. The floor pan fits in well with it. I have dry fitted the floor and after a few alterations, I am happy with the fit. Hopefully I will have it welded tomorrow night. Its Grey Cup Sunday here in Canada, and I always get together with my father for the game. So no more work today !
  12. I was hoping it would tell me what gears the rear end had. Anyone have an idea? Also, is the FMX trans a keeper or should I get a C4 ? All these questions, sooooooooo many choices......Oh the humanity:scared: !!! Any comments are appreciated !!!
  13. Thats just WRONG !!!!:scared:
  14. It looks fairly solid!! It should be an eye catcher over there when it's done!! Im guessing ya don't see many 69 stangs over there ?
  15. Im looking at buying this Trans, Im just wandering if it will work behind a 351W for my 69 Vert. Is the toploader a good trans or should I just rebuild the C4 I have ? Is $400.00 a good price ? Thanks !
  16. I also finished the body work on the fender and sandblasted the headlight pots. Then I etch primed them. They all came out very good !! Oh...And Bill....Yes that is outside...It was so nice out I was working outside ! Notice the green grass !!
  17. Well I have made a bit of progress this weekend. One Torque box is installed, I've dry fit the drivers side floor to where Im happy with the fit. Working on a vert sure can be a pain in the ass !! I've also found another surprise from the last person to work on this car !! Apparently a frost scrapper is a good way to hold a window regulator in place !!! :scared:
  18. Here is their price quote...... 1" drop template - Free 17/32 drill bit - Free 1/4" Poly coil spring insulators - $20 560 1" drop coil springs - $90 1 1/8" front sway bar kit - $110 Street Upper arms - $199 Street Lower arms - $140 (USA made Moog arms) Roller spring perches - $188 (eaby price) Strut rod bushings - $30 Steering kit with roller idler arm - $250 M/S $265 P/S (All USA made Moog parts) KYB Front shocks - $80 Grab-A-Track rear shocks - $56 - If you need all 4 shocks So the total looks to be $ 1178.00(US) plus shipping. Then I have to take into account the Can. $$ is in the toilet so thats another 20% ($235+), so now Im up to $ 1400+...And then there's shipping.......:surrender: So.....It looks close to 2 grand by the time its all done !!! YIKES !!
  19. I gave back the torque boxes and did find the correct vert ones. The only thing missing is the hole for the E-Brake and the E-Brake tube. I kept the tube and will sand blast it and re-use it. As for the firewall extensions, I can't find them anywhere. I may have to mod the ones I have. I will keep looking, but I really want to have the floors in this weekend. For that to happen I need to have the torque boxes and firewall extensions in place. I still need to fabricate 2 pieces for the lower inside rockers. Their fairly small and will be easy to make. Oh and it's 15c here today...Sorry Bill....
  20. OK.... Why is it nothing is ever easy with these cars ? My parts showed up this morning and none of them are the right parts. The torque boxes are for a coupe/fastback and the firewall extensions are for a 64-68 coupe. Apparently there is not a lot of sheet metal made specifically for a 69-70 vert. It seems every part I get I have to modify! Is anybody else running into this problem ? Or should I send this stuff back and try to find 69 parts ?
  21. OK, So I was happy with the results of the shock tower welds so I took on my next welding project. The RH fender has some small rust area on the very front of the fender. The LH fender needs to be replaced but has some good metal on it. So I used that fender to cut out some steel to fix the left fender. Welding this was a little more tricky as it is quit a bit thinner steel than the 12 gauge shock tower. I did blow a few holes in the fender but I was able to fill them with welds. When it was all done it came out surprisingly well. More parts are supposed to arrive today (Both torque boxes and firewall to floor pan extensions.) Hopefully I can start working on the floors. I have the RH side all cut out but I can't do anything until I get the torque box.
  22. Well it aint much but its a first. I finally put something back on the car. The tops of the shock towers were rusted through so I cut the rusted parts off and made new pieces out of 12 gauge steel. This would be my first attempt at wire feed welding. I have done a few practice welds to get the hang of it, and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
